What an Open!  91 holes of major championship (primetime) drama.  Needless to say I didn’t get a lot of work done this last Monday.  I could not have been more off on my Open picks.  Not only did I pick Phil to win, but I failed to start Tiger at all in my fantasy golf picks and came in last of all the Yahoo! Fantasy Golf experts.  Ouch!

Speaking of ouch, I’m sure you’ve heard by now that Tiger is done for the season.  It’s a tough loss for the PGA Tour and golf in general as TV ratings are sure to slip this summer.  Not that they could get any better then last weekend.  TV ratings or not, there will be a new FedEx Cup champion in 2008.

And life on the PGA Tour goes on this week at the Travelers Championship.  Last season Hunter Mahan eeked out a playoff win over Jay Williamson to claim his first PGA Tour victory, sinking a clutch birdie on the 18th to force the playoff.

Expect another close one this year as there have been playoffs here three of the last four years.  Coming in #1 in the APP (AimPoint Picks) is Rod Pampling who finished T36 last season at TPC River Highlands.  Rod is playing very well coming into the week having finished in the Top 20 in four of his last five tournaments played, including a T2 finish at the Crowne Plaza Invitational and is looking for his first win since 2006.  Expect him to be at the top of the leaderboard come Sunday.

Other golfers you may want to pick this week include Vijay Singh (four Top 10’s on the season), David Toms (T6 here last year) and Woody Austin who is 26 under par on this course in his last 16 rounds.

Won’t Win (the rest of 2008):  Tiger Woods

Could Win:  Rod Pampling, Vijay Singh

Sleepers:  Woody Austin, Ben Curtis
