There is just one day left until the 2010 PGA Tour season. In honor of the new year, Shlink Lincoln Sports is counting down the Top 12 SLS ranked fantasy golfers with the 12 Days of Rotoff. These are the top ranked fantasy golfers over the last three years.

Much like last year, another PGA Tour season starts with some uncertainty for the World #1. If 2009 is any indication of what to expect, don’t count on Tiger missing too much time. 3 of the 4 majors this year are on courses that Tiger dominates (and the same 3 of 4 from the “Tiger Slam” in 2000-2001). I don’t think he’s going to want to miss this opportunity to shave a few more off of Nicklaus’ major lead. If I had to bet I’d say he could return for the Arnold Palmer Invitational, but no later then The Masters in April.

Tiger is the most dominant fantasy player in any sport. He leads all golfers in RSA at -14.27 and no one else has Bonus points in all seven Segments. He’s the ultimate TC in Rotoff leagues, though beware of his slow starts, especially if he takes any extended time away from the game. The stats speak for themselves. 14 Top 10s in 17 Events in 2009. One word (that keeps coming up), domination!

Bottom line, he won’t go for cheap, expect to pay 55+ in Auction formats. Be sure to get a few middle tier golfers to pick up the slack while Tiger is out of your starting lineup. As long as Tiger returns in 2010, there’s no such thing as an overpay here.

Phil Mickelson

Quietly, Phil put together a great season in 2009 and despite the personal matters that arose last spring. If anyone can benefit from Tiger’s indefinate absence it is Lefty.  Phil is notorious for starting the season with a bang (4 Wins since 2007 in the first 10 weeks). With a C+ and A+ in Segments 1 and 2 respectively, he’s the perfect TC to start the season. Finishing in the Top 10 in over 33% of all his starts the last 3 years, you really can’t go wrong with Mr. Mickelson. His Money List grades of A+ across the board are also worth noting in weekly winner leagues.

Unfortunately Phil won’t go quietly in your Auction this year as everyone will likely be looking his way with Tiger’s status up in the air. Don’t be hesitant to overpay for Phil. Even at 45 Units you might have a steal on your hands. Anyone else think he’s due for another Major win?

Steve Stricker

Events Played: 67 (52nd)


Rotoff Scoring Average: -10.20 (5th)


Wins: 4 (5th)


Total Bonus Points: 20 (4th)

Cut/WD/DQ: 13 (46th)

Units (of 100): 33.4

Stricker is a machine, a model of fantasy golf consistency. Just look at those Segment grades, only one below a B overall, meaning he plays often and well. With Bonus in 5 of 7 Segments, he is one of a handful of golfers that gets an A as a TC. 3 Wins and 11 Bonus points in 2009 translates into Rotoff success.


Steve has increased his scoring each of the last three years and added a whopping +2 strokes to his RSA from 2008 to 2009. At -11.27 in 2009, assuming that trend continues you won’t have to worry about late round roster decicions. Start him and keep him in your starting lineup. The only thing missing from Stricker’s resume is a Major win. But he is averaging 1 Top 10 per season in majors over the last three years so he might be ready to breakthrough.  You won’t get any bargains on Stricker, but at 35 Units or less you won’t be complaining either.
