Fantasy Golf Picks
I’m giving myself points for picking winners. Hopefully my picks can help you win your fantasy golf league this season. My goal is to get to 111 points for the season, or the equivlant of picking a Top 3 finisher or better each week.
Winner = 10 points
2nd Place = 5 points
3rd Place = 3 points
Top 10 = 1 point
2009 Fantasy Golf Picks Total: 61 Points
2009 Fantasy Golf Picks Weekly Average: 2.35 Points
Last week:
Tiger was impressive all week long and I got my 3rd winner of the year, 10 more points to add to my season total and my goal of 111 points is a little more attainable. Casey flat out sucked, not even playing the weekend, and Weekley looked good for most of the tournament until Sunday. I can’t help but wonder if he hurt himself late last week. 67-69-69-79. Ouch!
The Tiger/Kim final pairing was exciting, if not anti-climatic. Anthony put up a decent fight but just couldn’t get his putter going. But take note of this pairing as we enter the summer and fall. Should Kim get a chance to challenge Tiger again this experience will be huge.
Rotoff Note: In my Rotoff Golf league I had a three shot lead through R3, only to be trumped by Putt Putt and his R4 starter Hunter Mahan, who shot a course record 62 on Sunday to knock me off the win. My R4 starter Lucas Glover played decent but alas I’m still looking for my first win this year (6 career) though still holding tight at #3 on the Points list with the playoffs just around the corner.
This week:
There’s a weak field at TPC Deere Run this week as many are in Scottland preparing for the Open Championship. Only three of the world Top 20 are in Illinios for the John Deere. Expect birdies o’ plenty and don’t be suprised if a first time PGA Tour winner is crowned come Sunday.
1. Kenny Perry
Who would have known that this whole time the fountain of youth was in Kentucky? Defending champ Kenny Perry, at age 48 (almost 49), has found new life on Tour with five wins in the last thirteen months. Even more impressive is two wins in 2009 and a heartbreaking almost Masters win. Oh, BTW, Perry has yet to miss a cut this season in seventeen starts with a RSA of -10.81. In eight career starts in this event he has five Top 10s. As the top ranked golfer in the field who won here last year I don’t see anyway Perry finishes outside the Top 10.
2. Jason Dufner
One of the first timers mentioned above, Jason Dufner is quietly putting together a solid 2009 season. With four Top 10s and over $1 million in earnings thus far, Dufner is still looking for his first PGA Tour trophy. Duf finished T6 here in 2007 but missed the cut last year. I’m not gonna lie, this is a super sleeper pick but Dufner is getting close and with a lesser field could shine.
3. Brandt Snedeker
You may remember Brandt Snedeker from such victories as the 2007 Wyndham Championship or as the 2007 Rookie of the Year. There were even glimpses of great golf with two major Top 10 finishes in 2008. But outside of those accomplishments, Brandt’s game has long gone down hill missing the cut in eight of fifteen starts this year. Yikes! So why am I picking Sneds this week? He looked like the golfer we all remember last week with his first Top 10 of the season, and has shot in the 60s six of his last eight rounds. That’s a start. It was this time two years ago that Snedeker began his streak of great golf in claiming the 07 ROY. Now owned in 0% of all Rotoff leagues, he’s got a few summer months to get back on track or I will eat these words:
From the 2009 Rotoff Golf Draft Kit:
“Snedeker had a bit of a sophmore slump in 2008 but I expect good things this year. Grab Sneds for 20-25 units and you’ve made a wise investment.”
Come on Sneds, win one for the Shlinkster!
