AimPoint PGA Tour Picks

Fantasy Golf Picks

I’m giving myself points for picking winners.  Hopefully my picks can help you win your fantasy golf league this season.  My goal is to get to 111 points for the season, or the equivlant of picking a Top 3 finisher or better each week.

Winner = 10 points
2nd Place = 5 points

<p align="left"><strong>Last week:</strong> </p>
<p><br/></p>
<p align="left">My lock to win didn&#8217;t even make the cut.  And thus the jinx of <a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/golf/pga/players/Jim+Furyk/34" title="Jim Furyk">Furyk</a> continues.  <a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/golf/pga/players/Stewart+Cink/186" title="Stewart Cink">Cink</a> and <a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/golf/pga/players/Aaron+Baddeley/3175" title="Aaron Baddeley">Baddeley</a> played well in spurts but neither were ever in contention.</p>
<p><br/></p>
<p align="left"><strong>This week:</strong> </p>
<p><br/></p>
<p align="left">The tour returns to <a href="http://www.cityofno.com/" title="City of New Orleans">New Orleans</a><strong> </strong>this week where <a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/golf/pga/players/Andres+Romero/4088" title="Andres Romero">Andres Romero</a> defends his lone PGA Tour victory.  It will be a weak field as only three golfers in the <a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/golf/pga/stats/bycategory?cat=WORLD_RANK&amp;season=2009" title="2009 World Golf Rankings">World Top 20</a> are playing.  That bodes well for the three golfers below as all are currently playing great golf.</p>
<p><br/></p>
<p align="center"><strong>1. </strong><font color="#0000ff"><strong>Nick Watney</strong></font></p>
<p><br/></p>
<p align="left"><a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/golf/pga/players/Nick+Watney/5974" title="Nick Watney">Watney</a> won this event in 2007 (his first PGA Tour victory) and is sure to contend this season.  Few have been as consistent as Watney this season as he has yet to miss a cut with Top 25 finishes in all but one tournament this year.  He struggled here last season finishing T42 but Watney is a different golfer this year and well on his way to becoming one of the top American golfers.  Already with a win in 2009, a win this week is very likely and could possibly move him to #1 on the &#8216;09 Money List.  Not bad at all.</p>
<p><br/></p>
<p align="center"><strong> 2. <font color="#0000ff"><strong>Rory Sabbatini</strong></font></strong></p>
<p><br/></p>
<p align="left">Always a household name, Rory has been somewhat quiet the last few years.  He has not won on tour since the <a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/golf/pga/leaderboard/2007/20" title="2007 Crowne Plaza Invitational">2007 Crowne Plaza Invitational</a> but is starting to show signs of life.  With only one missed cut this season and some low weekend rounds (including a 66 last Sunday) Sabbatini has a prime opportunity this week to get back in the win column.   Though he has not played in this event since 2000 I&#8217;m going with recent play in picking Rory to get another Top 10.</p>
<p><br/></p>
<p align="center"><strong>3. </strong><font color="#0000ff"><strong>Tim Wilkinson</strong></font></p>
<p><br/></p>
<p align="left">Tim who?  Wilkinson is playing only his second full season on tour via the <a href="http://www.pgatour.com/players/pgatour-exempt/2009/" title="2009 PGA Tour Exemptions list">Top 125 exemption</a> in 2008.  His 2009 season hasn&#8217;t been much to brag about, but a T6 finish last week coupled with a T3 finish at last year&#8217;s Zurich Classic makes Tim my darkhorse.  I&#8217;ll be the first to admit this is a risky pick as Wilkinson has missed four of nine cuts this year, but maybe his recent good play is signs of more good things to come.  A Top 10 is possible.</p>
