Fantasy Golf Picks
I’m giving myself points for picking winners. Hopefully my picks can help you win your fantasy golf league this season. My goal is to get to 111 points for the season, or the equivlant of picking a Top 3 finisher or better each week, based on the point scale below:
Winner = 10 points (20 for majors)
2nd Place = 5 points (10 for majors)
3rd Place = 3 points (6 for majors)
Top 10 = 1 point (2 for majors)

Last Week: It was an opportunity missed, as not a lot of points were scored for the Shell Houston Open. Congrats to Shane N. who gained ground on #1, with another weekly win. He got two points total, Top 10s for Mickelson and Bradley. I got 1 point for Mickelson’s T4 but missed a chance to make up some ground. Both Westwood and Stricker started with 1st round 68s but could not crack the 60s the rest of the week.
This Week: My favorite week of the year is here. Will the stars align to give us an unforgettable Masters Sunday? It would appear so. Every year I make my Masters wish to the golf gods. Give us Tiger/Phil final Sunday pairing. But now I don’t know what would be better. Tiger vs. Phil or Tiger vs. Rory? Or Rory vs. Phil? As a sacrifice to the Golf Gods I offer my obvious Masters picks. There’s no shame in picking the top 3 by Vegas standards, it’s double the points and time for me to make up some ground.
Good luck to everyone this week and let me be the first to wish you a Happy Masters Sunday! Pass it on to all your golf brethren.
Rory McIlroy
Redemption is sweet. If Rory McIlory is in contention on the weekend at Augusta (and he will be), all the announcers will talk about his collapse last year when he shot a final round 80. It will be so over mentioned that I will not mention it here. Wait, too late. Rory will be focused and ready this week. The meltdown was behind him when he dominated last year’s US Open. Now it’s time for his revenge. No doubt Rory will contend for the win. In the last three years Rory has four Top 10s in the last twelve majors with only two missed cuts. He has yet to crack the Top 10 at Augusta National but he did have the 54 hole lead last year before a final round 80. Shit, already said that! In three PGA Tour events this year Rory has finished 2nd, 1st and 3rd. Not too shabby.
Average Finish (Since 2009)
Masters: 45.00 (0 Top 10s, 1 missed cut)
Majors: 32.58 (2 missed cuts)
Tiger Woods
You’ve probably heard by now that Tiger is back in the win column. And just like that he’s one of the favorites at this week’s Masters. For good reason. Even when Tiger was struggling with car crashes, leg injuries and lost sponsors, he still dominated at Augusta. Infact you have to go back to 2004 for the last time Tiger finished outsite the Top 10. Mr. Woods knows this week is huge and had this event circled on his calendar when the season started. Don’t be suprised if Tiger gets major win #15 on Sunday.
Average Finish (Since 2009)
Masters: 4.67 (3 Top 10s, 0 missed cuts)
Majors: 27.70 (6 Top 10s, 2 missed cuts)
Phil Mickelson
Like the two above mention golfers, Phil too is on a roll in 2012. Already a winner at Pebble Beach (and damn near back to back, finishing 2nd at the Northern Trust), Phil saves his best for Augusta. With a better average finish then Tiger in majors over the last three years, I imagine Phil will get it rolling from the first day. He played well last week, though only cracking 60 once, if Phil is putting it will be over by Saturday.
Average Finish (Since 2009)
Masters: 11.00 (1 Win, 2 Top 10s, 0 missed cuts)
Majors: 22.45 (5 Top 10s, 2 missed cuts)
Sleepers (outside the World Top 50): Gary Woodland, Vijay Singh
Who wins if it’s:
Rory vs. Tiger?
Rory vs. Phil?
Tiger vs. Phil?

Here’s to hoping the Golf Gods give us an amazing Sunday finish!
